Is He Safe?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The end of the Messianic Psalm, Psalm 2 says:

“Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

On Sunday Zach Dietrich took us through Psalm 2 showing us the three sections of the Psalm. The first section shows that man is bent to rebel against God and even more specific in this Psalm that nations and governments place themselves in opposition to God. Secondly, it shows that God is on his throne and has installed Christ as the true ruler of the nations, a fact that will be physically seen in due time. Last, it shows us the proper response to the truth that Christ will inherit all nations and rule them with ALL authority. Zach used the story below to help us understand the reverent respect we should have for the Lord and Ruler of the nations. The Story is taken from C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan being a picture of Christ.

“Is he a man?” asked Lucy.

“Aslan a man!” said Mr Beaver sternly. Certainly not. I tell you he is King of the wood and the son of the great emperor-beyond- the-sea. Don’t you know who is the King of the Beasts? Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the great lion.”

“ooh!” said Susan, “I’d thought he was a man. Is he – quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.”

“That you will, dearie, and no mistake” said Mrs Beaver; “if there’s anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they’re either braver than most or else just silly.”

“Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy.

“Safe?” said Mr Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
