During our time of thinking about family worship I have asked the pastors what they do to teach their children. Pastor Trent gave some great thoughts last week. I also asked Pastor Cody for recommendations. He shared four Bibles his family uses and a little about what it looks like in the Crigger household. Here’s what Pastor Cody told me:
Here are some of the Bible’s we use with our kids.
The Jesus Storybook Bible. (I really enjoy this one)
ESV Children’s Bible (We are going through this one next)
I put the Bibles in the order that we used them as a family. Basically, I hope to teach my children doctrine of God through/from the story God. Here are a couple of practical notes. We strive to share scripture with our kids each day (sometimes we do a decent job…sometimes we don’t). We typically read stories before bedtime; however, we are not rigid with that schedule and sometimes read during dinner or other times. Also, we try to have spiritual conversations come naturally through our conversations so that talking about God is a very natural and normal part of life. We hope and pray that our kids will see Christ as the head of our family.
