Willow Creek Baptist Church exists to help people know and love God and to make Him known. Our church began as Airport Baptist Church of Des Moines, Iowa in the spring of 1963. Pastor Richard Mohr met with 35 concerned people to determine what God would have them do in relation to His mandate. “…ye shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem…” It became clear that God wanted them to carry the Gospel message to the people of Des Moines…their “Jerusalem.” Within ten weeks the little congregation had raised $7,000 to purchase property at 2600 Army Post Road and by July, construction of our first building was underway.

For many years Airport Baptist Church was known for its strong bus ministry. Many children came to Christ as a result of the bus ministry. It has always had a strong tradition of meeting the needs of our church family and friends and of reaching into the community to minister. We believe that the church is still God’s greatest gift to the world today.

With the expansion of the airport, God led us away from that location and supplied us with a new home in West Des Moines. We are now known as Willow Creek Baptist Church and couldn’t be more passionate about reaching our “Jerusalem”. We truly believe that here you will find a place to…
